In July 2021, the City of Burbank observed its 110th anniversary, celebrating more than a century of tradition and growth coming together to create the community we know today.

From the earliest days as the Rancho Providencia and then the Providencia Land, Water and Development Company, Burbank has evolved to be a place of civic pride, achievement and innovation. Burbank’s 1911 incorporation as a city set us on a path from agriculture to industry, from aircraft manufacturing to film production, while maintaining the neighborhoods and small-town feel that draw people here today.

Throughout the summer, the City of Burbank invited residents to explore their community and its history through events and activities for the whole family. We hope you will share your experiences and stories through Burbank Public Library’s Burbank in Focus collection of historical photos to build a more inclusive record of our community.

Kick Off

City Hall at 275 E. Olive Avenue was lit in Burbank blue on July 8, the City's incorporation date. Completed in 1943, the building epitomizes the best of civic architecture in terms of aesthetics as well as function and remains a point of pride for our city. (laconservacy.org)

Digital Photo Contest

From July 8-August 31, 2021, residents were able to submit photos for the Friends of the Burbank Public Library digital photo contest using the theme: Burbank, My Hometown.

Winning photos were selected by the Friends of the Burbank Public Library and will be used to create a 2022 calendar. Winners will receive 4 copies of the calendar in a Library swag bag. Winners and additional selected submissions may be added to Burbank in Focus, a digital library of historical Burbank images.
