Guide to Sound Editing & Mixing
The sound editing process is all about collecting all the sound that an audiovisual project requires, sound mixing is what audio and sound professionals do with those tracks after they are collected. Instruments, equipment and software applications available in the Spark! Digital Media Lab can be used to learn the basics of sound mixing and editing.
IN THE LAB
Equipment
- Various microphones from Blue, Audio-Technica, Shure
- Maschine MK3
- Presonus audio mixer
- Launchkey keyboards
- Yamaha studio monitors
Software
- Avid Pro Tools: an industry-standard digital audio workstation
- Logic Pro X: a digital audio workstation only on Mac computers
- Garageband X: a simple digital audio workstation only on Mac computers
- Ableton Live: a digital audio workstation
- Adobe CC Audition: a digital audio workstation
- Komplete: a digital audio workstation
- Audacity: a free digital audio workstation
The lab is outfitted with 4 Mac and 4 PC desktops. Most software is available on all desktops.
